Adopt-A-Nest
Protect a nest. Support local guardians. Ensure future generations.

Why Adopt-a-Nest?
Adopting a nest is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a practical way to support community-led sea turtle conservation in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth.
Your contribution helps us:
-
Protect vulnerable nests. Support the careful relocation of nests when necessary and their protection throughout incubation.
-
Support local conservation guardians. Help sustain the local people whose knowledge, dedication and daily work make beach monitoring and hatchery management possible.
-
Maintain our hatchery. Contribute towards the equipment, materials and essential resources needed to provide a safe, carefully monitored environment for relocated nests.
-
Strengthen research and education. Support the monitoring, data collection and environmental education activities that help improve conservation practices and connect communities with the wildlife they share their home with.
-
Build a future for conservation in Osa. Help ensure that sea turtles remain part of the ecological and cultural heritage of Playa Carate, while supporting local livelihoods connected to protecting nature.
Where does your donation go?
At COPROT, we believe that effective conservation depends on both protecting wildlife and supporting the people who make that protection possible.
100% of your nest adoption donation goes directly towards running our hatchery program.
Your contribution helps cover local guardians’ work, hatchery maintenance and equipment, as well as research and environmental education activities associated with the programme.
By supporting these essential costs, you help sustain the people and infrastructure needed to protect vulnerable nests throughout the season.
Nest adoption contributions support our collective conservation work rather than guaranteeing the survival of a particular nest or a specific number of hatchlings. Sea turtle conservation involves uncertainty, and every nest faces different conditions. Your support helps us respond to these challenges with care, experience and commitment.
Meet the people protecting Playa Carate’s sea turtles
COPROT Tortugas de Osa is a community-based sea turtle conservation initiative working along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Founded in 2019, COPROT works to protect sea turtles through beach monitoring, nest protection, hatchery management, data collection and environmental education. Our work is rooted in the understanding that lasting conservation must be connected to local knowledge, community participation and opportunities for people to benefit from a healthy natural environment.
The people who monitor the beach and care for vulnerable nests are central to this mission. Their work extends beyond the hatchery: it helps build local conservation capacity, strengthens environmental awareness and supports a future in which sea turtles continue to be valued as part of the region’s natural heritage.
When you adopt a nest, you are supporting this collective effort. This season we have 3 awesome hatchery guardians from the local community of Carate: Jorge Cubillo, Manuel Mora and Vanessa Arias.
