While this project was originally founded with sea turtle conservation in mind, it is not all that we do. Conservation is something that does not have a single, clear-cut solution; therefore COPROT is working on a variety of initiatives to address conservation from a multitude of angles.

Sea Turtle Conservation

Our primary mission has always been the conservation of nesting sea turtle populations that come to the beaches of Carate, Rio Oro and Pejeperro. Read more about our conservation and research on sea turtles!

Marine Plastic Solutions

Marine plastics are suffocating marine life and strangling our seas. We believe in practicing what we preach, which means finding solutions for our own waste as well as all the plastic we collect from the beach!

Ecotourism plays an important part in our financial model, and we believe that sustainable ecotourism can support the conservation of biodiverse areas and improve employment opportunities for local people with a wealth of local knowledge!

Community Development

There is no such thing as conservation without community, therefore we always ensure we are actively working hand in hand with local people to develop a sustainable resilient community built around conservation.

Permaculture & Regenerative Agriculture

Integrated conservation also means finding sustainable ways to grow food and support our community. Regenerative agriculture systems are key to ensuring a healthy future for our planet.

Environmental Education

We all know that children are the future, so we are always providing plenty of opportunities for young people of all ages to get involved sea turtle conservation and learn the valuable skills they need to be the next generation of eco-warriors!!
